This project was done for the Fine and Applied Arts social media page for Mental Health Awareness Day. I wanted to pull from my own experiences with mental health to try and portray what it feels like when you are suffering.

I also included a series of extra illustrations as well, to showcase the differences in mental health problems that affect everyone.

I then tried to pinpoint what tropes are overused so I can divert from those ideas to create my own.

My process started out with a lot of sketching, and a lot of research. I wrote down all of the different icons and symbols of mental health and drew inspiration from what other people were designing in relation to mental health.

These last sketches are where I got my final idea, the girl floating in water.

The next step was to figure out what message I wanted to convey to the viewers, I also wanted them to be able to really take in the message I am trying to send out.
